Athena's Owl

Gold | 1 oz
Having successfully launched silver editions in 2020/21, we now proudly present the antique finish gold versions of the Tortoise and Athena’s Owl. The Tortoise, a slow and steady creature embodied the idea of lasting power, making it a popular choice for coinage in Ancient Greece. Allegedly, the tortoise was first minted on currency coins manufactured on the island of Aegina. The Athenian Owl, renamed after the Greek goddess of wisdom, is arguably the most popular and recognized ancient coin. The owl evolved into the Athenians’ own icon and graced a large variety of coins, such as the tetradrachm, from as early as the 5th century BC.
