Shades of Nature is up to its fifth release with the sungazer or giant girdled lizard. Named after the iconic dragon Smaug of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, the sungazer is native to South Africa.
The coin is an archetypal Shades of Nature issue, with a gilded proof field and an astonishingly detailed sungazer struck in smartminting© high relief. The scales are treated with a micro-minting surface-finish to bring out the incomparable shine and radiance not found on ordinary strikes.
