Just a month has passed since CIT introduced the popular Laughing Buddha coin, among others, at Singapore International Coin Fair and already we find ourselves back in East Asia at Tokyo International Coin Convention. The largest numismatic event in Japan sees four new CIT issues released. Headlining the new coins is the spectacular Cherry Blossom Globe celebrating Hanami, or “flower viewing”, referring to the Japanese tradition of picnicing under the blooming sakura cherry trees. The beautiful Vienna globe encapsules an 18mm silver coin along with hundreds of pink flower-petal like flakes that slowly float and descend to the grass-green bottom.
Next up is the eight issue of CIT’s Skyline Dollar series, launched at WMF in February. The latest addition appropriately introduces the skyline of Tokyo in the same minted proof and partially colored finish that collector’s have come to expect of the series.
The remaining two issues address somewhat more somber themes albeit in beautiful manner, commemorating Princess Diana on a 1/100oz Big Gold Minting coin and remembering fallen soldiers and service personel with a stunning full color smartminting© coin in the shape of a poppy flower.
